Representatives Sandra Masin and Mike Obermueller to Host Capitol Open House

| | |

State Representatives Sandra Masin (38A) and Mike Obermueller (38B) will join Representatives Will Morgan and Phil Sterner to host a Capitol Open House on Tuesday, June 1 in the Chamber of the Minnesota House of Representatives from 6:30-7:30pm. The lawmakers will meet with constituents and discuss the recently concluded Legislative Session.

In a joint statement the lawmakers said, “The State Capitol is the ‘people’s house’ and a part of Minnesota’s identity. We can’t think of a better place to discuss the many opportunities and challenges facing Minnesota than our state’s Capitol. We’re excited to open the doors to all of our constituents, and look forward to seeing them in the House Chamber for an important and engaging discussion.”

The local legislators are inviting all area residents to attend this free event. Children are also encouraged to attend.

Senate District 38 Convention Passes 25 Resolutions

| | | |

The Senate District 38 DFL Convention on February 20, 2010, passed 25 resolutions ranging from support of universal health care and other health care reforms to promotion of climate change and other environmental protection policies to limiting corporate involvement in campaigns and elections.

The District Convention's passage of the 25 resolutions is one step in the process of amending the state DFL party platform that began when precinct caucus attendees proposed and adopted 67 resolutions on February 2. At least 60% of District Convention delegates had to vote in favor of a resolution in order for it to be passed and sent to the DFL State Convention April 23-25 in Duluth for consideration by those delegates for inclusion in the party platform.

A list of the 25 resolutions can be downloaded here.

Governor Pawlenty has announced his intention to end the Political Contribution Refund (PCR) program in just a few days. The PCR program is the funding mechanism that lets grassroots donors have as much say in politics as wealthy individuals and PACs. And Governor Pawlenty may be about to kill it.

The PCR program is a casualty of the Governor’s shortsighted unallotments -- but it isn’t the only casualty. The real victims are the tens of thousands of Minnesotans whom the Governor’s short-sighted actions will hurt.
